The Dubai Fountain: show times, the best free spots and penthouses with a view

The Dubai Fountain dances on Burj Lake below Burj Khalifa every 30 minutes from 6pm to 11pm, and watching from the lakeside is free. For a closer look, take the boardwalk or a short abra boat ride. Or stay in a Downtown penthouse facing the lake and watch every show from your own balcony.

The Dubai Fountain at night

Show times

  • Evenings: a show every 30 minutes from 6pm to 11pm, every day.
  • Afternoons: there are also shows in the early afternoon. Times can change, so check with Dubai Mall on the day.
  • Ramadan: evening shows usually start later, after iftar.

Each show lasts only a few minutes and is set to a different song, from Arabic classics to film scores and pop. Stay for two or three shows and you'll see quite different displays.

The best free viewing spots

  • The lakeside promenade outside Dubai Mall: the classic spot, with Burj Khalifa right behind the water. Arrive 15–20 minutes early to get a place on the rail.
  • Souk Al Bahar bridge: the footbridge between Dubai Mall and Souk Al Bahar looks straight down the lake.
  • Dubai Mall and Souk Al Bahar terraces: many restaurants have lake-facing tables. Book one for dinner and watch several shows while you eat.

Boardwalk and boat ride

  • Boardwalk: a floating walkway out onto the lake, closer to the jets than anywhere else. About AED 20 per person, open from early evening.
  • Abra lake ride: a traditional wooden boat that takes you onto the lake during a show. About 30 minutes and around AED 68 per person. Children under three go free.

Buy both at the ticket kiosks by the lake or online. Times and prices can change, so check before you go.

Combine it with Burj Khalifa

The entrance to Burj Khalifa At the Top is inside Dubai Mall, a few minutes' walk from the lake. A sunset slot at the top followed by a fountain show at night is one of the easiest great evenings in Dubai.

Watch from your own balcony

The towers around Burj Lake look straight onto the fountain. From a high floor you see the whole show with Burj Khalifa behind it, without the crowds. Look for penthouses with a Burj Khalifa view in Downtown Dubai, and ask the host whether the balcony faces the lake or only the tower.
